Kenya’s shift toward competence-based education is reshaping what success looks like in secondary school: it’s no longer just about test scores, but about what learners can actually do. In that spirit, St. Anne’s is launching an entrepreneurship program that turns classrooms into studios, labs, and small businesses—so students graduate with market-ready skills, a professional work ethic, and real experience delivering products people value.
What’s launching this term:
- Agriculture and animal husbandry
- Home Science bakery studio
- Creative industries: Art and design
What students will learn:
- Work ethic and professionalism: punctuality, teamwork, accountability, and customer care.
- Financial literacy: costing, pricing, basic bookkeeping, and profit-sharing models.
- Technical competence: animal care, food hygiene, safe equipment use, and artistic techniques.
- Entrepreneurship mindset: problem-solving, market research, branding, and continuous improvement.
This initiative is a collaboration between the school administration, faculty, the community and the FOSA board in the United States. Together, we have developed practical business plans for each venture with clear roles, budgets, safety standards, and measurable learning targets. The goal is to send out graduates ready for apprenticeships, formal employment, or to start their own ventures.
This is more than a program—it’s a promise to our learners. By aligning assessment with real performance and purpose, we’re helping every student discover their strengths, contribute to the community, and step confidently into the workforce or entrepreneurship with skills that matter.
